A Fictional Series by J Quisumbing
Chapter 14
“Tony and your wife managed to coordinate the safe lifting of the whale back into the sea,” Robby said to Jona. “Fortunately, the whale’s family pod was still nearby and the juvenile rejoined them. Of course, Mae also attached a satellite linked probe on the juvenile.”
“Did she give it a name, yet?” smiled Jona. “She always named all her tracking subjects.”
“Nemo.”
“You’re kidding.”
“Your daughter’s idea.”
Jona smiled. There was a knock on the door.
“It’s open.”
Kina ʻAukai entered.
“Ah, Agent Ow-oo-kaya-ee…”
“Please, director, call me Kina. It will be easier.”
“Oh good… So, what can I help you with?”
She looked at Robby then turned back to Jona. “May I speak with you privately, Director?”
“Ah, okay… Robby, we can finish with the report later.”
“Surething.” Robby left the room.
“What’s in your mind, Kina?”
“Director, I will need your authorization for NCIS Hawaii to analyze the finances as well as incoming and outgoing communications of certain crew members.”
“Kina, I don’t think that I can legally authorize this.”
“Sir, Oceanus is now in international waters. In accordance with maritime law, you are the captain of Oceanus. As captain, for security purposes, you do have every legal right.”
“Kina, I’m not liking this. The idea that your people will be going through my people’s private emails and stuff…”
“Director, the monitoring will not be made by people. It will all be done by a new software system developed by Naval Intelligence.”
“How many of the crew will this system be monitoring?”
“About 24, sir.”
“24! That is still a lot to weed out.”
“Yes, sir, I agree. But I’m hoping the NCIS main frame can shorten that list a bit.”
“Do you really think that the saboteurs will actually write in their emails of their plans?”
“Sir, I wish they were that stupid and my job would be a lot simpler. The NCIS computers are tied in with the NSA which constantly monitors the dark links.”
“…and you believe that those whom you suspect are using those dark links.”
“Yes sir.”
The shadowy figure sat patiently staring at the computer screen. Displayed on it was the image of a recognizable architectural wonder of Singapore, the Marina Bay Sands resort with its iconic three majestic towers topped and connected by an even incredible feat of engineering, the 340-meter-long Sky Park. The figure had frequented its infinity pool and many of its posh restaurants. Then, a white owl icon on the top right corner of the screen started to blink. The figure clicked on it.
The screen quickly changed into a collage of different species of birds. The figure counted the photos four across then counted five down to an image of a pair of green king fishers. When positioning the mouse cursor arrow over those birds, one of them started to wink. The figure clicked on it. The screen blacked out and what appeared was a series of illegible texts. The figure waited for all of it to display, after which the figure held down the control and alt buttons as well as the letter x. The gibberish text blurred for a quick moment and a clear message appeared in Spanish.
The figure then simultaneously held down three other keys on the keyboard and the message turned into English.
‘YOUR MESSAGE RECEIVED… ARRANGEMENTS MADE WITH KA’ ATTUKA TO MAKE RAID…
Note from the author:
Oceanus Adventure is a fun effort on my part to enter the wonderful world of creative writing. It’s a story of a group of people who launched themselves into the Pacific Ocean on an artificial island to solve the Great Pacific garbage patch. My hopes is that this will end up into a TV series.
Comments and idea suggestions will be most welcomed. I hope you enjoy it.
