Go ahead! Turn on your TV to the news channels. What will we find? From all over the world, we see wars, strifes, public hatred, turmoil, illegal migrations, increase of crime, acts of foolishness & outright stupidity, families being torn apart, children rebelling against their parents; and then from nature, we see reports of unusual climate changes, volcanoes erupting, increased occurrences of earthquakes, extreme flooding, droughts and devastating pandemics. The world had gone BONKERS!
Whenever this happens, I cannot help but think that everything that’s been happening seems quite prophetical. Of course, when I say ‘prophetical’, I mean that what is happening in the world is not exactly unexpected. What prophecy? Well, those that point to the “end times” and when it comes to that, I tend to turn to the last book of the Bible, REVELATION.
For those of you who have little or no knowledge of the 66th book of the Holy Bible, I invite you to watch a short animated summary provided by the Bible Project. The link is just below. By the way, the video is about 11:48 minutes, but for the purpose of this introduction, please just watch the first 2 minutes. Enjoy…
The summary video that you just watched was meant to stem confusion and fear which many have experienced when they attempted to read the Book of Revelation. I must admit, it can be a daunting book to read. In my early days, I even avoided studying it on my own. But then, why would I avoid studying it? It is the Word of God after all. According to the third verse of the first chapter of Revelation, it is a blessing to read and meditate on it. But yet many hesitate. Why the hesitation?
Revelation is a document unlike the other letters of the New Testament which were straightforward and instructive. The literature is filled with symbolisms, metaphors, and mysteries. It reads more like the prophetic books of the Old Testament. And so, most tend to stick to the easier reads of the Bible leaving the difficult prophecies to scholars and the like. Others feel that the “END TIMES” is too depressing to contemplate. So, they avoid it all together. Well, I truly believe they all miss out.
So, in my blog, I would like to help you navigate through this wonderful book of mysteries. But I will not do this the way I was taught. In other words, I’ll not spoon-feed the answers like the way I was when I attended all those Bible classes before. Though I learned a lot from those classes, I discovered that the truest blessing came when I studied and meditated on Revelation on my own. Mind you, though, I was not really by myself. I could not glean the whole truth if it wasn’t for the Lord’s Holy Spirit in me. By the way, the indwelling Holy Spirit is crucial in this endeavor. So, if you don’t know if you have God’s Spirit in you, then you and I have to talk before you can tackle this.

Meanwhile, allow me to explain how I will guide you through Revelation. I remember in the opening scene of a 1992 movie, “Accidental Hero”. Geena Davis (actress), playing the role of a sleuth reporter, was being publicly awarded before her peers in the News industry. As she gave her speech, she showed them an onion and started to peel it. Every layer of the onion she meticulously revealed, she likened it to the reporter’s discovery of a different story than what that reporter started with. This in-turn drove the reporter to keep peeling so as to pursue the truth of it all until there is no more to peel. In many ways, this is how we are going to look closely at Revelation.
We’re going to unravel this intriguing document piecemeal. We will first look at the obvious, that is, what does the text say. Then we will seek out parallel accounts from the rest of Scripture. For instance, Revelation will show us a vision of a serpent. I will then show you how I would use certain biblical tools to seek out those parallels. I will then throw out a lot of questions to you so that you can establish enough of what the Lord wants you to know and do. Now, I’m going into this venture as a fellow explorer not as a teacher. So, we need to communicate with each other. I would love to hear from you. I look forward to reading your take in what we will be reading. This is important because it is quite easy for the enemy to side track us with issues that are far off from what Lord’s will.
Well, I’m ready to go. How about you? Do you wish to join me?
See you at my next posting.
