Can doubt and faith exist at the same time? I think the better question should be…
Should doubt and faith in Christ be able to co-exist?
Consider the effect if that was so. To aid you with this, I want to tell you a Christ–type parable that illustrates the Christian’s spiritual struggle.
A Christian is like a wagon with two horses hitched to it.

Except that one horse, a black one (DOUBT), is hitched on one end of the wagon, while the other, a white horse (FAITH), is hitched at the other end. The black horse is facing south. The other is facing north. When both horses pull together, the wagon goes nowhere. Now, there is a driver and he has with him oats to which he can feed only one horse at a time. The one being fed becomes stronger while the unfed one becomes weaker. The wagon, in turn, will go wherever the strongest is going.
So, if the Christian finds himself heading SOUTH, then the black horse is being fed more than the white. It usually means that he had allowed himself to continuously listen to falsehoods and if we can learn from Jesus’ lesson in taking the broad and easy road, the destination will always lead to destruction.1 Of course, for any born again, salvation can never be lost, however if one continue to allow DOUBT to dominate his/her earthly walk then as it is written in James 1:6b…
… the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (James 1:6b)
