IF IT WASN’T FOR JESUS [part 1]

Why faith in Him? by JQuisumbing

I have been watching a lot of videos lately of college students challenging preachers on why they have Jesus so much in the brain.  Even people who know me asked the same ‘why’ question. Why are most of my writings about Jesus? I’ll give my usual answer to most ‘why’ questions.

WHY NOT?

Why should not Jesus be so significant in my writings? Why should not Jesus be important to EVERYONE?

Did He not earn it? Does He not deserve our utmost adoration and worship? And yet, His name is frequently disparaged, in one way or another, by people everywhere. I bring up ‘Jesus’ and a fair number either roll their eyes or change the subject. But then, if I bring up ‘Superman’ or any other superhero, hey… there would be hours of fun talk of what they could do. A lot of praise and worship can easily be brought up and this is just for fictional characters. Here’s the thing though, Jesus is quite real and I am going out on a ledge with this one: He is truly THE SUPERHERO of our time.

Now, before you ask for proof that Jesus is real, let me counter. How did you know that Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Darius, Aristotle, King Tut and every other ancient personality out there were real? My point for everyone is that if you make an honest effort to dig through the mountain of evidence of Jesus Christ, you’ll discover what I myself have found. Besides, the purpose of this article is not to reinvent the wheel, meaning other notable scholars have already provided their own research on the matter.

What makes Jesus worthy of our notice?

If it wasn’t for Jesus, our way of life today would be even darker than the Dark Age ever was. Consider this. Our hospitals today, all over the world, came to be because the Spirit of Christ was present in St. Basil of Caesarea, who in 370 AD, Basil used his own fortune and founded a hospital for the care of the sick and even for the care of lepers, who were outcasts. We can say with reasonable confidence that this was the first hospital in human history. Many such hospitals sprang up in the Christianized world, then gradually spread everywhere. All because of Jesus’ qualities.

H.G. Wells made this incredible statement. ‘I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.’

It has been noted that historians, philosophers, and even world leaders have marveled at the impact Jesus Christ has had on the world. So, in my next posting, I will attempt to lay it out for you. The rest would be up to you.
